Charla has told the wonderful story of Chanukah with her illustrations. The palm, myrtle and willow are represented along with the seven cup menorah and oil. The date is noted as well as the eight days of the burning oil. Small memorahs across the top of the lettering show the sequence of the daily candle burning. The city of Jerusalem is pictured as well as the hills where Mattathias fled and formed the Maccabees. The battles with arrows and rocks are shown. Wheat and barley, the staple food of the hill people is illustrated. The menorah fully lit is the central picture as well as the rededicated Temple. The eight spears are also represented. The small gift, gelt (Chanukah money) and the dreidel are drawn to show the other customs of Chanukah. One of the daily Chanukah prayers is written into the picture in Hebrew:
Blessed art Thou, O lord our God, King of the universe, who hath sanctified us by His commandments, and hath commanded us to kindle the light of Chanukah.
