“Anointed, Follower of Christ.”
Ecclesiastical Latin Christianus, from Greek Cristos “anointed.”
Christian is a post Biblical name. It began as a female name in the Middle Ages, but changed to a male name by the 18th century. This may have been due to the publishing of the book Pilgrim’s Progress by John Bunyan. In the story two of the main characters are named Christian and his wife Christiana.Christian has been regularly used in English speaking countries since the 18th century. In the 1970’s the name became very popular in Australia and Britain.
Charla has designed Christian based on the name’s meaning. In her research of the name, she discovered the legends of King Arthur, the founder of the “Table Round.” King Arthur and his knights were followers of Christ. Their good deeds and virtue were based on their Christian beliefs. Charla has illustrated Christian as a noble knight of the Round Table, “a follower of Christ.”
